Art Files: Daisy Diamond
Daisy Diamond is a Philadelphia-based artist who works with welding and found materials. They explore material culture and memory through research-based sculptural processes that toy with ideas of artifacts and sentimentality. Diamond is particularly interested in the afterlives of ritual objects. Whether as dusty family heirlooms, preservation projections in museums, or questionable listings on eBay, these ritual objects can become animated or absurd. These sculptures guide an exploration of Diamond’s personal relationship to Jewish material culture and how this relationship is mediated by the pressures of assimilation, family memory, and capitalism. Diamond has completed residencies at Penland School of Craft and the Jewish Museum. They have shown work at Vox Populi, Perrotin Gallery Bookstore, Fleisher Art Memorial, and William Way Community Center Gallery.
